Description
XPHEN TYR Analog is a phenylalanine and tyrosine free powdered infant formula, containing a balanced mixture of essential and non-essential amino acids, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. A food for special medical purposes.
Indications and Prescribability
XPHEN TYR Analog is for the dietary management of Tyrosinaemia Type I (when NTBC is used), II and III in infants from birth to one year.
Suggested Intake
The quantity of XPHEN TYR Analog and the dilution should be determined by a clinician or a dietitian only and is dependent on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the patient.
However, some natural protein must be supplied in addition to provide phenylalanine and tyrosine in controlled amounts, which is essential for normal growth. This is provided in the form of breast milk or standard infant formula or later from suitable weaning foods. XPHEN TYR Analog should be given in divided doses throughout the day and preferably given in conjunction with the natural protein source.
Preparation & Administration
Each level scoop (5g) of XPHEN TYR Analog requires 30ml (approx. 1 fl. oz) of water to yield the recommended feed concentration (15%).
1. Wash hands. Sterilise feeding bottle and teat.
2. Boil fresh water. Cool boiled water so that it feels warm to the wrist and pour desired amount into sterilised feeding bottle. Keep bottles capped until use.
3. Fill the scoop provided in the pack and level off by passing the back of a clean, dry knife across the rim. Do not press the powder down into the scoop. Use only the scoop provided.
4. Add the prescribed number of scoops of XPHEN TYR Analog to water.
5. Replace the cap on the bottle and shake until the powder dissolves. Before feeding, ensure that the formula is at the correct temperature by placing a few drops on the wrist. XPHEN TYR Analog is now ready for use.
When bottle feeding, prolonged or frequent contact of feeds with the infant’s teeth should be discouraged as this increases the risk of tooth decay. Cleaning the infant’s teeth after the last feed at night should be encouraged.
