Description
An unflavored powder free from phenylalanine but containing balanced amounts of the other essential and non-essential amino acids, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Also available in Orange and Forest Berries flavours
Indications and Prescribability
XPhe Maxamum (Unflavored) is for the dietary management of proven phenylketonuria (PKU) in children from approximately 9 years of age and adults. Suitable for use by pregnant women with PKU. Supplemental iron may need to be provided during pregnancy.
Suggested Intake
The recommended intake of XPhe Maxamum will vary depending on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the individual. Intake should be adjusted to maintain normal growth and development. For accuracy, XPhe Maxamum should be weighed on a gram scale. The daily intake of XPhe Maxamum should be divided into equal portions and distributed throughout the day.
Preparation & Administration
USE ONLY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF A PHYSICIAN OR DIETITIAN.
XPhe Maxamum must be consumed in conjunction with natural protein, fluid and other nutrients in quantities prescribed by a physician or dietitian to meet phenylalanine and general nutrition requirements.
XPhe Maxamum is best served with meals. Make a paste of the prescribed amount of powder with a small volume of water. Gradually add sufficient water to yield the prescribed volume. It is recommended that XPhe Maxamum be reconstituted at a 1 to 7 dilution (e.g. 100g of XPhe Maxamum plus 700 mL of water or one sachet plus 350ml water) and advanced to a 1 to 5 dilution (e.g. 100g of XPhe Maxamum plus 500 mL of water or one sachet plus 250ml water). These dilutions are guidelines only. XPhe Maxamum may be given in a more concentrated form i.e. drink or paste. Water or diluted drinks should be offered at the same time as Maxamum.
XPhe Maxamum is best prepared with chilled water and consumed immediately after preparation. Reconstituted drink mix should be stored in the refrigerator and used within 24 hours.
Precautions
Must only be used under strict medical supervision. Not intended for use as the sole source of nutrition. Not for parenteral use. Not intended for infants or young children. Not suitable for metabolic disorders other than phenylketonuria.
This product must be supplemented with natural protein and other nutrients in medically prescribed quantities to supply the phenylalanine and general nutrition requirements of the patient
Precautions
Store unopened can at room temperature. Do not store at extreme temperatures. Once opened, reseal can and store in a cool, dry place (not in refrigerator) and use within one month
