Description

An orange flavored powder free from methionine but containing a balanced mixture of the other essential and non-essential amino acids, carbohydrate, vitamins, minerals and trace elements.

Indications and Prescribability

XMet Maxamaid is for use in the dietary management of Hypermethionemia and vitamin B6 Non-Responsive Homocystinuria children from approximately 1 to 8 years of age

Suggested Intake

The recommended intake or XMet Maxamaid will vary depending on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the individual.  Intake should be adjusted to maintain normal growth and development.  For accuracy, XMet Maxamaid should be weighed on a gram scale.  The daily intake of XMet Maxamaid should be divided into equal portions and distributed throughout the day. 

Preparation & Administration

USE ONLY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF A PHYSICIAN OR DIETITIAN.

XMet Maxamaid must be consumed in conjunction with natural protein, fluid and other nutrients in quantities prescribed by a physician or dietitian to meet methionine and general nutrition requirements.
XMet Maxamaid is best served with meals.  Make a paste of the prescribed amount of powder with a small volume of water.  Gradually add sufficient water to yield the prescribed volume.  It is recommended that XMet Maxamaid be reconstituted at a 1 to 7 dilution (e.g. 100g of XMet Maxamaid plus 700 mL of water) and advanced to a 1 to 5 dilution (e.g. 100g of XMet Maxamaid plus 500 mL of water).  These dilutions are guidelines only. XMet Maxamaid may be given in a more concentrated form i.e. drink or paste.  Water or diluted drinks should be offered at the same time as XMet Maxamaid.

XMet Maxamaid is best prepared with chilled water and consumed immediately after preparation.  Reconstituted drink mix should be stored in the refrigerator and used within 24 hours.

A 1:7 dilution = 680 mOsm/kg
A 1:5 dilution = 940 mOsm/kg

Precautions

Must only be used under strict medical supervision. Not intended for use as the sole source of nutrition.  Not recommended for infants under 1 year of age.  Not for parenteral use.  Not suitable for metabolic disorders other than Hypermethionemia and vitamin B6 Non-Responsive Homocystinuria or as a supplement for individuals who do not have Hypermethionemia and vitamin B6 Non-Homocystinuria. 

This product must be supplemented with natural protein and other nutrients in medically prescribed quantities to supply the methionine and general nutrition requirements of the patient.

Precautions

Store unopened can at room temperature.  Do not store at extreme temperatures.  Once opened, reseal can and store in a cool, dry place (not in refrigerator) and use within one month.
