Indications and Prescribability
MSUD Maxamum (Flavored) is for the dietary management of proven Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) in children from approximately 9 years of age and adults.
Suggested Intake
The recommended intake of MSUD Maxamum (Flavored) will vary depending on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the individual. Intake should be adjusted to maintain normal growth and development. For accuracy, MSUD Maxamum should be weighed on a gram scale. The daily intake of MSUD Maxamum should be divided into equal portions and distributed throughout the day.
Preparation & Administration
USE ONLY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF A PHYSICIAN OR DIETITIAN.
MSUD Maxamum (Flavored) must be consumed in conjunction with natural protein, fluid and other nutrients in quantities prescribed by a physician or dietitian to meet leucine, isoleucine, valine and general nutrition requirements.
MSUD Maxamum (Flavored) is best served with meals. Make a paste of the prescribed amount of powder with a small volume of water. Gradually add sufficient water to yield the prescribed volume. It is recommended that MSUD Maxamum be reconstituted at a 1 to 7 dilution (e.g. 100g of MSUD Maxamum plus 700ml of water) and advanced to a 1 to 5 dilution (e.g. 100g of MSUD Maxamum and 500ml of water). These dilutions are guidelines only. MSUD Maxamum may be given in a more concentrated form e.g. drink or paste. Water or diluted drinks should be offered at the same time as Maxamum.
MSUD Maxamum (Flavored) is best prepared with chilled water and consumed immediately after preparation. Reconstituted drink mix should be stored in the refrigerator and used within 24 hours.
Precautions
Must only be used under strict medical supervision. Not intended for use as the sole source of nutrition. Not for parenteral use. Not intended for infants or young children. Not suitable for metabolic disorders other than MSUD.
This product must be supplemented with natural protein and other nutrients in medically prescribed quantities to supply the leucine, isoleucine, valine and general nutrition requirements of the patient.

Precautions
Store unopened can at room temperature. Do not store at extreme temperatures. Once opened, reseal can and store in a cool, dry place (not in refrigerator) and use within one month.
