MSUD Maxamaid (Flavored) is for use in the dietary management of proven maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) in children from approximately 1 to 8 years of age.
MSUD Maxamaid intake will vary depending on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the child. Intake is adjusted to maintain normal growth and development. 100g of MSUD Maxamaid provides 25g of protein equivalent. For accuracy, MSUD Maxamaid should be weighed on a gram scale
USE ONLY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF A PHYSICIAN OR DIETITIAN.
MSUD Maxamaid must be consumed in conjunction with natural protein, fluid and other nutrients in quantities prescribed by a physician or dietitian to meet isoleucine, leucine, valine and general nutrition requirements.
MSUD Maxamaid is best served as a chilled drink with meals. Make a paste of the prescribed amount of powder with a small volume of water. Gradually add sufficient water to yield the prescribed volume. It is recommended that MSUD Maxamaid be reconstituted at a 1 to 7 dilution (e.g. 100g of MSUD Maxamaid and 700ml of water) and advanced to a 1 to 5 dilution (e.g. 100g of MSUD Maxamaid and 500ml of water). These dilutions are guidelines only. MSUD Maxamaid may be given in a more concentrated form i.e. drink or paste; water or diluted drinks should be offered at the same time.
Reconstituted drink mix should be stored in the refrigerator and used within 24 hours.
