Mapleflex is an unflavoured leucine, isoleucine and valine free powdered drink mix containing essential and non-essential amino acids, fat, carbohydrate, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. A food for special medical purposes.http://nutrition.nutricia.com/images/uploads/Mapleflex.jpg
Mapleflex is for the dietary management of Maple Syrup Urine Disease in children aged 1-10 years. It contains a balanced blend of essential fatty acids (4:1) as children with MSUD have been shown to have higher levels of linoleic acid, and lower levels of linolenic acid compared to controls and low plasma DHA levels. Initial case studies indicate that Mapleflex is well tolerated and growth and biochemical indices are normal.
The quantity of Mapleflex should be determined by a clinician or a dietitian only and is dependent on the age, bodyweight, and medical condition of the patient.
The diet must be supplemented with some natural protein and other nutrients in medically prescribed quantities to meet the leucine, isoleucine, valine and general nutrient requirements of the patient.
Mapleflex is best presented as a chilled drink but can also be given as a paste.
As a drink:
The recommended dilution is 1 sachet of Mapleflex (29g) plus 100ml of water.

The osmolality of Mapleflex at the above dilution is 1130 mosm/kg.
