Description
A blend of four parts glycerol trioelate oil and one part glycerol trierucate oil.
Indications and Prescribability
Lorenzo’s Oil is for use in the dietary management of x-linked adrenoleukodystrophy and adrenomyeloneuropathy.
Suggested Intake
The quantity of Lorenzo’s Oil and the dilution should be determined by a clinician or a dietitian only and is dependent on the age, bodyweight, and medical condition of the patient. Some treatment protocols suggest that Lorenzo’s Oil should provide 20% of the total calorie intake per day.
Preparation & Administration
The recommended dosage of Lorenzo’s Oil is dependent on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the patient.
Lorenzo’s Oil is usually given in conjunction with a low fat diet restricting C26:0. It may be taken on its own or mixed with permitted foods, such as skimmed milk.
Due to the restricted fat intake, it may be necessary to supplement with essential fatty acids.
The instructions should be followed carefully to ensure that Lorenzo’s Oil remains in optimum condition.
1. Leave the bottle at room temperature (approximately 21oC, (70oF)) for 1 hour before use.
2. Shake bottle very well until white sediment is evenly distributed throughout the bottle.
3. Remove the daily dose and return bottle to refrigerator.
4. The dose for the day should be kept in a sealed container in the dark, eg. cupboard at room temperature and taken throughout the day as instructed by the physician or dietitian. Shake very well before use, to ensure minimal wastage of white sediment.

Unopened: Lorenzo’s Oil should be stored in a cool dark place below 20ºC.
Opened: Lorenzo’s Oil should be stored in a refrigerator and discarded one month after opening.
