Indications and Prescribability

Lophlex (Orange) is for the dietary management of proven Phenylketonuria (PKU) in children from approximately 9 years of age and adults.  Suitable for use by pregnant women with PKU provided iron requirements are supplemented from dietary or other sources.

Suggested Intake

The recommended intake of Lophlex will vary depending on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the individual.  Intake should be adjusted to maintain normal growth and development.  For accuracy, Lophlex should be weighed on a gram scale.  The daily intake of Lophlex should be divided into equal portions and distributed throughout the day.  This product is best consumed with meals.

Preparation & Administration

USE ONLY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF A PHYSICIAN OR DIETITIAN.
Lophlex (Orange) must be consumed in conjunction with natural protein, fluid and other nutrients in quantities prescribed by a physician or dietitian to meet phenylalanine and general nutrition requirements.

Make a paste of the prescribed amount of powder with a small volume of water.  Gradually add sufficient water to yield the required volume. It is recommended that Lophlex be reconstituted at a 1 in 5 dilution (e.g. 100g of Lophlex made up to 500 ml with water or one sachet made up to approximately 70ml with water) and advanced to a 1 in 3 dilution if desired (e.g. 100g Lophlex made up to 300ml with water or one sachet made up to approximately 43ml with water).  These dilutions are guidelines only. Lophlex may be given in a more concentrated form as either a drink or a paste.  Water or diluted drinks should be offered at the same time as Lophlex.  To ensure tolerance, Lophlex may initially need to be introduced at a lower concentration.

Lophlex is best prepared with chilled water and consumed immediately after preparation

Must only be used under strict medical supervision.  Not intended for use as the sole source of nutrition.  Not suitable for infants under one year of age.  Not for parenteral use.  Not suitable for metabolic disorders other than PKU or as a supplement for individuals who do not have PKU.
