Description
Alicalm is a cream coloured vanilla flavoured nutritionally complete powdered feed consisting of protein (casein and whey), dried glucose syrup, fat, minerals, trace elements and vitamins.
Indications and Prescribability
For use in the dietary management of Crohn’s Disease in those over 5 years of age. Can be used as a sole source of nutrition or as a supplement to diet.
Suggested Intake
The dosage of Alicalm is dependent on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the patient. The recommended feed concentration is 30% weight / volume (100g made up to 330mls, 1.35 Kcals / ml)
Preparation & Administration
For osmotically sensitive patients, an initial dilution of 20% weight / volume (100g made up to 500mls, 0.9 Kcals / ml) is recommended. Alicalm can be taken as a more concentrated drink at 33% weight / volume (100g made up to 300mls, 1.5 Kcals / ml) but additional water / allowed fluid should also be taken. These diultions are guidelines only.
To reconstitute, weigh out the prescribed amount of Alicalm, put in a container with screw top lid. Add the required amount of water according to the concentration required. Replace lid and shake vigorously. Alternatively, add a small amount of water to the prescribed amount of Alicalm. Stir with a fork until a smooth paste is obtained, then continue stirring while adding the rest of the required water. Once reconstituted, the feed should be refrigerated and must not be kept longer than 24 hours from the time of preparation. Stir or shake immediately before serving.
Precautions
Must only be used under strict medical supervision. Not suitable for infants and children under 5 years of age. Not for parenteral use.
Precautions
Store in a cool dry place. Always replace the container lid after use. Unopened shelf life is 12 months.
